The artifact I have chosen is the GAP Analysis for Wilbur’s Widgets. This was created during semester 20EW5, which ran May through June of 2020. The purpose of this artifact was to analyze a business and create a report that showed areas the business was lacking in with respect to Information Technology, and legal and ethical standards.
Requirements and Knowledge
Creating this artifact required understanding which business and IT processes were covered by which legal standards. It also required creating multiple Acceptable Use Policies to cover many aspects of the business’s IT infrastructure.
Creating these policies meant having to balance security and use and understanding ethical standards of technology use.
Key Takeaways
Creating this artifact gives me experience in applying ethical and legal standards to business processes and examining those processes from multiple angles
I selected this artifact because it showed my ability to take into consideration multiple legal and ethical standards and create policies based on these standards. The policies created in this artifact demonstrate my ability to recognize professional responsibilities that come from following these standards.
The Acceptable Use Policies (AUP) created in this document show my ability to understand legal and ethical standards and create policies to enforce them.
Challenges
The biggest challenge in creating this artifact was the complexity of the multiple laws that could apply to the business. The laws can be difficult to understand because of the legal language used.
When doing this in the real world, having legal advice on whether a law applies can save time and money. If I had to create the artifact again now, I would spend more time researching other AUPs so it would be more complete.
